Why The Well Fed Mother

This story begins with my testimony and the day I fully surrendered everything to Christ.

I was raised “in the church,” in a small town in deep East Texas. My mother made sure we were there every Sunday morning, every Sunday evening, every Wednesday night — if the doors were open, we were in a pew. But underneath all that church attendance, the gospel I was actually given wasn’t the true one. I grew up in the middle of purity culture and hellfire-and-brimstone teaching, and the message I absorbed was simple: do a few things right, say the sinner’s prayer once, and you’re good.

What that gospel never taught me was anything about who God actually is — His character, His heart — or who I was in Him.

This lack of true gospel led to a complete rebellion in my late teens, twenties and early thirties. I saw the world living better than I was, and I was doing the “right” thing. The message, the actions and the results did not match. So I chose new actions. I was angry for many years. I abused alcohol, prescription drugs, chased education and career. Money. I had it all by the world’s standards, but inside I was dead. I was truly dead. Void of purpose. Void of true emotion. Void of truth.

In my early thirties I found myself in the depths of depression. Suicidal thoughts. Pure despair. That’s when the surrender began. Not all at once. In small steps. Thankfully, even if the whole gospel wasn’t correct, the seeds were already planted, and they started growing. I gave up on my own way and started seeking truth. I wanted to know God. My way was NOT working. Surely He had to be better.

I started slowly surrendering my life to Jesus. Piece by Piece. And He lovingly met me at every step forward, and every step backward. By my mid-thirties I was on my way to discovering truth. I was reading the bible, seeking Godly counsel. I also met my husband. We were married in 2018, and had our first daughter in August of 2019. As cliche’ as it sounds, at the birth of my daughter the full surrender happened. At that moment the gospel became crystal clear to me, and I knew I had no hope in being a good mother without Christ. I went all in.

From that day God has taken me deeper in him. Knowing him, trusting him, walking with him. It’s been a joy.

That surrender is why this space exists. Because once I understood who God really was, I couldn’t unsee it — and I couldn’t keep it to myself.

What “Well Fed” Actually Means

Being a Well Fed Mother isn’t about having it all together. It’s about being a mother who feeds her mind, soul, and spirit daily by sitting in God’s Word and filling up on truth — the real gospel, not a performance-based one. It’s about feeding her body with good, honest food. And it’s about feeding her family with the love and presence that can only come from a soul that’s already been filled first.

You can’t pour from an empty well. So that’s where we start — filling up, so there’s something real to pour out.

What You’ll Find Here

This isn’t a lifestyle blog wearing a Bible verse for decoration. Christ is the main thing here — everything else grows out of that.

  • Scripture and Bible study, worked out in real, ordinary motherhood — not just theory
  • Real recipes — some mine, some tried-and-true favorites from others — for feeding your family well without turning dinner into a second job
  • Homeschooling resources we’ve actually used and trust
  • Honest stories from the trenches of raising 5 kids, littles and bigs alike — the sanctifying, unglamorous, grace-filled mess of it

Why I’m Doing This

God radically changed my life, and I’m not interested in keeping that quiet. If you grew up like I did — checking the boxes, saying the right things, but never quite sure of who God really was or who you were in Him — I want you to know: there’s more. There’s a whole gospel, not a partial one, and it changes everything, including how you mother.

Come as you are, in the middle of the trenches. Pull up a chair. Let’s fill up together.
